Arts Northeast
is a collaborative group of four visual artists created in 2011 who support,
create and exhibit together. The diversity of work is shown in their individual
approaches to similar subjects ranging from animals to landscapes. In 2012, we
are pleased to welcome three new members to Arts Northeast.
Jeanette Jobson lives and works in Flatrock. She is one of the co-founding members of Arts Northeast and has developed her own painting signature depicting representational images of fish, animals and aquatic scenes in a variety of mediums. From gyotaku (fish printing) to classical oils, her work is representative of a close connection with the sea.
Brenda Rowe lives and works in Torbay and is the other co-founder of Arts Northeast. The detail found in nature is the foundation of many of her paintings with form, texture and colour apparent in her work. As well as focusing on broader landscapes, she paints little “windows” into the nature for a more personal and intimate view which tells their own stories to the viewer.
Michelle Whitten LaCour lives and works in St. John’s. Michelle works in watercolor and oil in a realist style. She depicts an intimate view of the beauty in her natural surroundings.
Dora Cooper is a local realist artist who works in acrylic, pastel and watercolor. She enjoys using light and color in her work and paints a variety of subjects including birds and flowers; the landscape and history of this province, however, are her favorite subjects.
Joan Roberts is a full time visual artist who lives in St. John’s. She paints in several mediums and enjoys painting many subjects to capture and challenge her diversified interest in her surroundings.

Beginnings marks the inaugural exhibition of a recently formed visual art group - Arts Northeast. Arts Northeast is a collaborative group of four visual artists created in 2011 who support, create and exhibit together. This summer exhibition, in the historic Masonic Temple, introduces ten original pieces of work from each artist. Each artist shows their view on the natural world around them in subjects ranging from gyotaku fish prints and seascapes to florals and traditional landscapes.
